What is the BILL OF LADING

A bill of lading (BL or BOL) is a legal document proofing the property of cargo whether it was LCL Or FCL Or AIR, and It is the most important and necessary document in the export and import shipping industry (Ocean, Air, and Inland).

It is an agreement between the shipper and a freight carrier giving him the responsibility and the authority over the cargo. Containing all the information required to process the freight shipment and properly invoice it, specifying the kind, quantity, and final destination of the goods being transported, and the agreed-upon terms and conditions for the transportation of the goods.

Bill of lading types

1 - Master Bill of Lading

It is a legal receipt of transfer that is made for shipping companies and airlines by their carriers that outlines the conditions necessary for the transportation of the freight, as well as information on the shipper, consignee, and individual in charge of the items.

2 - House Bill of Lading

A sea Transport Intermediary freight forwarder or non-vessel operating company produces a House Bill of Lading. The document, which is given to the suppliers when the cargo is received, serves as an acknowledgment of receipt of items that have been shipped. Also known as a forwarder's bill of lading, this bill of lading.

3 - Clean Bill of Lading

The shipping company or its representatives issue a clean bill of lading without making any declarations on the defective constitution of the goods/packages taken on Board/stuffed in containers

4 - Received for Shipment Bill of Lading

A carrier will issue a received bill of lading as proof that they have the goods they are shipping. It is not an onboard bill of lading because it is issued before the vessel loads.

5 - Through Bill of Lading

It is more complicated than most BOLS. The document gives the shipping company permission to distribute the cargo among various distribution hubs or modes of transportation. Depending on the destination, this bill contains both an inland and an ocean bill of lading. Also known as a combined transport document or a multi-modal transport document.

6 - Clauses Bill of Lading

When parts of the cargo are lost or damaged, a Clauses Bill of Lading is issued.

7 - Short-term/ Blank Back Bill of Lading

When the specific terms and conditions of the carriage contract are not stated on the bill of lading's body or its back, a short-term or blank back bill of lading is issued.

How to issue B/L

The B/L is a non-negotiable B/L after it has been issued and confirmed in all of its data and details.

MBL is issued directly by the shipper to the consignee or from the origin port forwarder to the distinctive port forwarder (AGENT)

HBL is issued by the forwarder in the origin port to the shipper contained the cargo details and to order to the actual consignee
