How can SDG be applied in logistics?

How can Sustainable Development Goals be applied in logistics?

  • Working on reducing the waste generated from packing

Adopting the “logistics unverpackt,” method of packing in which internet delivery logistics emphasizes recycles packaging, and uses materials that is not harmful to the environment.

  • Working on reducing carbon emissions reduction by adopting eco-friendly transportation.

The use of environmentally friendly forms of transportation vehicles like using electric delivery vehicles and maintaining ongoing research to provide truck and van load optimization solutions and effective driving techniques and choosing a better route.

  • Make better use of container space.

By using better packing and sorting techniques we can make better use of container space, saving energy and effort to ship multiple containers.

How can we test if the logistics operation is according to the SDG?

There is an indicator that helps us test if the logistics operations are working according to the   Sustainable Development Goals and it is called Logistics Performance Index (LPI). The Logistics Performance Index and the variables that affect it must be understood in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. The Logistics Performance Index is primarily influenced by the following variables:

  1. The framework of trade and transportation.
  2. The standard of the main logistics processes.
  3. Having the capacity to follow shipments.
  4. The simplicity of organizing shipments at reasonable prices.
  5. The degree of border and customs clearance.

Logistics has a big role in preserving environmental sustainability, and on the other side of the coin, using sustainable ways helps logistics offer operational services more effectively while generating opportunities for cost savings and improvements in terms of logistical performance
